Spicy Crab Dip

We love a bougie on a budget recipe, and claw meat is a great, more affordable option when cooking with crab.

When we went to the beach this year, we bought a spicy crab dip, which ended up mostly just being cream cheese and pepper jelly – which, don’t get me wrong, was delicious. But it left me really wanting some spicy crab dip, so we made it at home!

This is also a great option to make ahead, store it in the fridge, then pop it in the oven 20 minutes before your guests arrive. An impressive, crowd pleasing appetizer is served!

Ingredients

  • 1/2 lb claw crab meat, cooked
  • 3 oz cream cheeze softened
  • 3 tbsp full fat mayonnaise I am using kewpie
  • 1 tbsp fresh lemon zest
  • 1 serrano pepper finely minced, seeds included
  • 1 tbsp Calabrian chilis or Trader Joe's Bamba sauce
  • 3 green onion whites and greens separated
  • 1/3 cup sharp cheddar cheese freshly shredded
  • Salt and Pepper to taste

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 375
  • Mince the green onions and serrano peppers as finely as possible
  • Gently mix all ingredients besides the cheese in a bowl until well combined. Taste and adjust salt and pepper. It should taste a little salty because it will tone down in the oven.
  • Transfer to an oven-safe dish, cover with cheese, and bake for 25-30 minutes, until cheese is fully melted
  • Switch oven to high broil and broil for 1-2 minutes to brown cheese.
